Description The Department of English Studies includes a Celtic Section, which aims to give students a comprehensive understanding of the other indigenous languages and cultures of the British Isles. There are currently three major courses of study: Old and Middle Irish, Modern Irish, and Welsh, each of which may be continued to doctoral level. A course in Scottish Gaelic is also offered. Breton is offered intermittently.
